(William Vazeille), Engels historicus (Cambridge 20 Apr. 1879 11 Juli 1939), was sinds 1905 Fellow van Peterhouse te Cambridge (in 1938 Master) en sinds 1930 hoogleraar in Nieuwe Geschiedenis. Als goed kenner van Z.O.-Europa, dat hij herhaaldelijk bereisde en waar hij tijdens Wereldoorlog I diende, was hij deskundige bij de vredesconferentie van Parijs.
Hij was ook lid van verscheidene militaire missies en grenscommissies in de Balkanstaten. Zijn voornaamste historische publicaties hebben betrekking op deze landen of op de diplomatieke geschiedenis van de laatste twee eeuwen, waarop hij, naarstig vorser in archieven, nieuw licht heeft geworpen. Met G. P. Gooch leidde hij de grote officiële uitgave British Documents on the Origins of the War, 1898-1914 (11 dln, 1926-1938). Ook als organisator van de geschiedkundige wetenschappen in nationaal en internationaal verband nam hij een vooraanstaande plaats in.Bibl.
