Brits natuuronderzoeker (Whitby 8 Aug. 1861 -Merton 8 Febr. 1926), ontving zijn opleiding te Rugby en St-John’s College te Cambridge en was van 1908-1909 professor in de biologie te Cambridge, werd in 1910 directeur van het John Innes Horticultural Institution, Merton Park, te Surrey en was daarna van 1912-1914 Fullerian professor in de fysiologie aan het Royal Institution. Hij is een der grondleggers van de moderne erfelijkheidsleer.
