Engels taalgeleerde (Londen 21 Nov. 1835 - Cambridge 6 Oct. 1912), werd in 1878 hoogleraar in het Oudengels te Cambridge. Hij was een van de stichters van de Early English Text Society, waarin hij ook zelf publiceerde.
