Engels tekenaar en schrijver (Londen 12 Mei 1812 - San Remo 30 Jan. 1888), trok de aandacht als vogeltekenaar; in 1837 vestigde hij zich te Rome, van waaruit hij uitgebreide reizen ondernam, beschreven in zijn Illustrated Journals of a Landscape Painter. Beroemd werd hij door de absurde en fantastische humor van zijn geïllustreerde limericks en nonsense verse.
