Engels psychoanaliticus, 1.1.1879 Gowerton (Wales), ♱11.2.1958 Londen. Jones studeerde te Londen, München, Parijs en Wenen, waar hij S.Freud leerde kennen.
Hij werd hoogleraar te Toronto, waar hij de psychoanalyse introduceerde. Hij keerde terug naar Engeland en stichtte in 1913 de British Psycho-analytical Association. Hij richtte in 1920 de International Journal of Psychoanalysis op en schreef belangrijke psychoanalytische studies. Werken: Social aspects of psycho-analysis (1924), Hamlet and Oedipus (1949), S.Freud. Life and work (3 dln. 1953—57), Free associations (1960; autobiogr.).
