(Velserenderlaan 2) consists of remnants of a moated square castle with three square and one round corner tower (circa 1275) and a curved front castle (circa 1300). It is possible that Willem van Teylingen, who was named in 1244 under the name of Van Brederode, had already built a castle before. During the Hoekse and Kabeljauwse quarrels the castle was damaged and in 1351 it was broken down to the foundations.
After rebuilding on the old foundation, a second devastation followed in 1426. The castle, subsequently rebuilt in 1460, was destroyed by Spanish troops in 1573 and then turned into ruin. After excavations (1862-'71), the ruin - since 1869 state ownership - was consolidated (1862 to 1903) and parts of the wall were rebuilt. V. de Stuers, A. van der Steur, P.J.H. Cuypers (design covering the northeast tower) and J.A. from Lokhorst. The overseer's house on the castle is from 1871.
