The rice mill complex Hollandia in Wormer

betekenis & definitie

(closed 1966) is on the Zaan and was built at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century according to plans by J.P.F. van Rossem and W.J. Vuyk. The form. rice-grove annex warehouse Hollandia I (Veerdijk 42) from 1877 has been realized in stages and enlarged premises.

In 1888, for example, a water tower was erected at the rear. The façade situated on the Zaan with rationalistic details and a projecting façade with a bell tower dates from 1902, as does the western extension. Then, in neo-Renaissance style, the form was built. warehouses Batavia (Veerdijk 39; 1894), Saigon (Veerdijk 40; 1898) and Bassein (Veerdijk 41; 1898, elevated 1905, extended 1909), all with an iron skeleton. The form. warehouse Java (Veerdijk 43) with concrete skeleton dates from 1907. In 1913, behind the warehouse Bassein, on the site where a machine room and chimney stood, a well executed second rice mill Hollandia II (near Veerdijk 42) with a concrete skeleton and bricks.
