The ruin of Nuwendoorn Castle in Warmenhuizen

betekenis & definitie

(near Burchtweg 3), located to the northwest of Warmenhuizen, is the remnant of a castle built around 1290 by Floris V that was destroyed by floods in the late 14th century. At excavation (1960-'63) the castle appeared to consist of a square main castle with protruding gate tower, a heavy and a small corner tower, as well as a front castle. The remains were raised higher in 1964.
