Warmenhuizen (municipality Harenkarspel)

betekenis & definitie

Village, originated in the 9th century on a series of houses that grew into an elongated back of mounds - also known as ramparts. This gave the Dorpsstraat an L-shape. Warmenhuizen is mentioned for the first time in 1288. Until 1607 it was a glory of the lord of Egmond. Warmenhuizen developed into a horticultural village at the end of the 19th century.

After the connection to the tram line Alkmaar-Schagen (1913), a factory was built for salted vegetables (1914) and an auction (1928, demolished around 1970). After the Second World War, the ribbon village was expanded on both sides.
