The Herv church in Uitgeest

betekenis & definitie

(Kerkbuurt 1), originally dedicated to Maria Geboorte, is a church with three-sided closed choir and a tower of five sections with constricted masonic striker. From the beginning of the 14th century a single-nave cross-church remains parts of the cross-walls of the transept, as well as a part of the west façade.

The Late Romanesque tower first half of the 14th century. The ship got the current width at the end of the 15th century and around 1500 the late Gothic choir was built. The south portal with stepped gable dates from 1635. In the tower there is a clock cast by Francois and Pieter Hemony (1650). The masonry spire was renewed in 1726. The church was restored in 1925-'26 (Tj. Kuipers) and in 1977-'79. The interior is covered by wooden barrel vaults. The narrow side aisles in the church were created by the fitting of columns and arches in 1635 (south side) and 1906 (north side) and are provided with transverse wooden extension caps. The inventory includes a pulpit and doophek (both at the end of the 17th century) and an organ by P. Flaes (1869). The floor contains late 16th and 17th century sisters.

The form. presbytery (Castricummerweg 2-4) dates from 1659 and is a U-shaped building with wooden gables with scalloped wind springs.
