The Herv church in Stompetoren

betekenis & definitie

(Noordervaart 122) is a single-nave cross church with three-sided closed choir and a half-built tower with balustrade. This church, which was built in a Gothic style in 1662-'63, has pointed-arch windows with brick tracings and a transept façade with corner volutes. A cartouche above the tower entrance reports the year of construction (1663). In the tower hangs a clock (1604) cast by Hendrick Wegewaert. The interior covered by a wooden barrel vault contains a pulpit and benches from the construction period and a door by F.S. Naber built organ (1862). The cemetery has an entrance gate with masonry stanchions.
