The Herv church in Opperdoes

betekenis & definitie

(Kerkebuurt 16) is a one-aisled, five-sided closed church with a tower of three sections with balustrade and bricked octagonal striker. The tower was built in the second half of the 15th century against a 13th-century church, which was rebuilt in 1517 after devastation in 1517. In the tower hangs a clock cast by Geert van Wou (1527). Restoration to the church took place in 1776 and 1862-'67; the spire was restored in 1836. During the church restoration and disassembly in 1942 (H.J. Cramer) the tower balustrade and the spire were also renewed.

The interior is covered by a wooden barrel vault with draw beams. There is a piscina in the closure. The inventory includes a richly cut pulpit (1688, P. van Petten), a text board (1701), a doophek (1752) with copper baptismal arch (1753) and a door by K.P. built by Ingen (1874).
