The Herv church in Koog aan de Zaan

betekenis & definitie

(Zuiderkerkstraat 14) is a cross church, which originated from a hall church built in 1685 by Jacob Reijersz (foundation stone) with support bears (swinging out at the bottom), entrance portal (west side) and consistory (east side). According to plans by A. Latenstein, this church was given cross arms, pointed arch windows and a bell tower with clockwork in 1824-'25. After a fire in 1920, when the celebration tower was lost, the church was restored in 1920-'22 (J. de Meijer).

The interior is covered by wooden barrel vaults with draw beams (restored 1922) and is equipped with galleries (1825). The inventory includes 17th century pews, a pulpit (1686), a ship model (circa 1685), a doophek (1826) and three gentlemen's banks (circa 1826). Originating from the R.K. St. Anthony of Paduakerk in Haarlem is the organ built by M. van den Brink (1853, transferred in 1913, restored in 1922).

The current consistory 'De Stolp' (Zuiderkerkstraat 12) is a single-storey building from 1850 (memorial stone), fitted with an 18th-century door frame with cutting frame between ionic pilasters.
