Stroe in Oosterland

betekenis & definitie

This hamlet to the west of Oosterland arose in the Middle Ages at a church dedicated to St. Willibrord (demolished in 1878), of which it belongs to Alg. cemetery transformed cemetery remains (Stroeërweg approx.). Characteristic of Wieringen are the farms with elongated two-compartment shed with a hay-shed that can be reached from the outside (ground bag) and wagon shed (wagon shed).

This is flanked by a narrower, lower part (uutlid) and a rear house (cowshed) that turns into the extension of the living area (upstairs and front house, both with a bedrock wall). Against the two-shed barn is the 'darsk' (part) with a built-out chimney. This farm type is best recognizable at the museum farm 'Jan Lont' (Stroeërweg 39) from 1854. Other examples are Stroeërweg 5-7 (possibly 18th-century), 29 (circa 1875) and 37 (circa 1900).
