Oosterblokker (municipality of Drechterland)

betekenis & definitie

Village, originated in the 12th century as peat reclamation. In 1414 the Stede Westwoude (Westwoud with Ooster- and Westerblokker and Binnenwijzend) received city rights, but these were purely administrative in nature. The 17th century court house, rebuilt in 1852, was demolished in 1926. This long stretch of ribbon village, which on the east side turns into the single-sided building of Binnenwijzend, belongs since 1979 to the municipality of Drechterland.
