Village on the island of Texel, originated in the 11th century on a boulder migration. The church surrounded by an almost square cemetery is somewhat higher than the other buildings. Many houses around the church and along the adjacent Peperstraat have been built as pilot or bargee houses. The harbor built in 1843 for the oyster catch became out of use in 1859. Oosterend is a protected village.
