Curving dike in Krommenie

betekenis & definitie

This village north of Krommenie arose in the late Middle Ages as peat reclamation and developed into a ribbon-shaped village. The Herv. church (Krommeniedijk 182) is a hall church with round arch windows, support bears (swinging out at the bottom), two portals and a wooden gable tower.

This church, decorated with ornaments in Louis XV style, was established in 1755 on the spot of a medieval church destroyed in 1574 and then only partly rebuilt. The portals were installed during a restoration in 1939-'42. The interior has a stone floor and a wooden barrel vault. The inventory includes a wall plate with regulations (1679), a pulpit and a gentleman's bench (both circa 1690), a few 18th-century pews and a ship model (1755). The form. presbytery (Krommeniedijk 190) is a plastered T-shaped building from 1875 in sober eclectic forms. The polder mill 'De Woudaap' (Noordervaartdijk approx.), Which is covered with reeds, is an octagonal inner barrel from 1651. The 17th century Woudaapsluis (renovated 1907) is located near the mill.

Examples of 19th century wooden houses are Krommeniedijk 122, 184 and 188.

The form. tollhouse / café (Krommeniedijk 189) is a white painted wooden one-storey building with veranda, which got the current view around 1860. In 1920, after a traditionalist design by P. van Walbeek, the fire sprayer was built (opposite Krommeniedijk 118).
