Bezold (Karl), assyrioloog, geb. in 1859 te Donauwörth, werd in 1883 priv.-doc. te München; van 1888 tot 1893 was hij werkzaam in het Br. Museum te Londen, sinds 1894 gew. hoogleer, „voor Oostersche talen” te Heidelberg. Zijn belangrijkste werk is de bekende Catalogue of the cuneiform Tablets in the Koyunjik collection of the British Museum (1889 — 1899). Voorts publiceerde hij o.a. Ueberblick über die babylonisch-assyrische Literatur (1886); The Tell-el-Amarna Tablets in the British Museum (1892); Ninive und Babylon (2e uitg. 1903); Orient.
Studien Th. Nöldeke gewidmet, herausg. von K. Bezold (1903). Sedert 1886 is hij redacteur van de „Zeitschrift für Assyriologie”. Ook gaf hij eenige Syrische en Ethiopische publicaties.
