For the Merwedekanaal the characteristic service homes Verlengde Buitenveer 24-25 (circa 1884) were built. Examples of late-19th century workers' homes are Achterherengracht 1-5 (circa 1880, re-established annual anchors' 1796 '), Middenstraat 103-113 (circa 1890) and Wilhelminastraat 1-23 and 2-24 (1895). In 1903-'04, the plans of J.H. van Vilsteren the workers' houses on the Emmastraat, with screen facades with neo-Renaissance elements. In 1921, the Protestant housing association Patrimonium built the Red Village with the one-storey housing blocks Talmastraat 18-38 and 29-35 (design by Kuipers), and the houses Talmastraat 1-27 and 2-8 (G.J. Vos).
