Wieringerwerf (municipality of Wieringermeer)

betekenis & definitie

Hoofddorp of the Wieringermeer, founded in 1936 on the east side of the Robbevaart. In 1941 this was given by M.J. Granpré Molière designed village its current name.

Originally it was somewhat more southerly planned, around a mound raised as a refuge, but because of the bad surface, people were turning northward; the industrial area remained on the south side (Wieringerwerf-Zuid). The rectangular village structure is defined by two broad green axes at right angles (Terpstraat and Prof. Granpré Molière street) with the domain office on the corner. Churches accentuate the three other corner points. After the reconstruction after inundation in 1945, the village got a town hall on the north side and a third green axis (Brinkweg). The shops are located on the Terpstraat (east side) and the Brinkweg (south side). The central sports field was built around 1946 (Patrijsstraat). Later extensions are mainly realized on the east side. All architecture is traditional in form.
