Waarland (municipality Harenkarspel) in Oudkarspel

betekenis & definitie

This village northeast of Oudkarspel developed from 1910 as a gardeners' village. The R.K. St. Wulfram Church (Kerkstraat 55) is a three-aisled basilical church with roof rider and portal, built in 1921-'22 to a traditionalistic design by J.Th.J. Cuypers and P. Cuypers jr. The Veluweweg 2 farm (circa 1910) is a long-term farm with ornamental masonry and ornamental lace. Polder mills. In the village stands the polder mill Hoebelaan 9, which until 1951 bled the polder Waarland. This reed-covered octagonal inner barrel on a wood-clad foot dates from 1571 (converted in 1853). To the north of the village is the 'Slootgaardmolen' (Slootgaardweg 10a), a comparable polder mill from around 1590 of the Slootgaardpolder.
