Wadway in Wognum

betekenis & definitie

This small village west of Wognum arose in the 13th century. In the 19th century, the road came further from the church. The slightly elevated location in front. Herv. church (Wadway 18), originally dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene, is a one-aisled church with a tower of two sections with low tent roof.

The late-Gothic tower, built around 1450, contains a clock (1466) by Andreas and Thomas Eggairts. The ship built circa 1500 has a gate on the north side of which the arch is filled with a red brick Bremstone stone. The choir performed with supporting bears was established in the early 16th century and received a straight closure at the beginning of the 17th century. The richly cut pulpit with ionic corner columns dates from 1656 (rear wall 1683). Farms. Interesting farmhouses are Wadway 33 (1877) with eclectic window decorations and a dakerker, Wadway 13 (circa 1890) with a dakerker in chalet style and Wadway 9 (circa 1920), where the dakerker and the underlying façade part have been built into a bay.
