The R.K. St. Boniface Church in Zaandam

betekenis & definitie

(Eastside 14) is a three-aisled basilical cross-church with main choir (closed on five sides), south side seam (closed on three sides) and a north side sock surrounded by a U-shape. This neo-Gothic church arose in 1898-1900 according to plans of A.A.J. Margry and J.M. Snickers to replace a church from 1785. The westparty flanked by polygonal staircase towers with spiers has a large clock tower with high needle spikes in the middle.

The interior contains the original neo-Gothic interior with altars made by Margry atelier. There is also a communion bank from workshop J.P. Maas, painted crossroads by J. Dunselman (1904-'13) and a pulpit from the Mengelberg studio (1923). Originating from the old church is the organ (1787) built by Johannes Mitterreither.

The presbytery (East side 12, circa 1900) shows neo-Renaissance and neo-Gothic details. In front of the church is a statue of Christ the King (circa 1950, J. Verdonk).
