The Old-Catholic church in Krommenie

betekenis & definitie

(at Noorderhoofdstraat 131) is a closed shelter church behind a house (presbytery). A converted farm on the spot came into use in 1612 as a shelters church, was enlarged in 1633 and in 1826 got brick side walls.

The three-aisled interior has wooden columns, a wooden barrel vault above the central aisle and flat covered side aisles. The inventory includes a marble baptismal font and a carved marble niche (both circa 1650), a pulpit on a foot with a carved eagle (circa 1690) and a doophek (circa 1690). The altar (circa 1710) comes from the demolished church 'De Pauw' in Amsterdam and has an altar painting by Willebrordus Boogaerts (1635) and a tabernacle (circa 1750). There is also a richly cut communion bench and lava table (circa 1710), and pews in Louis XV style (circa 1760). From Langeraar (ZH) comes the cabinet organ (1719, placed 1827).

The parsonage (Noorderhoofdstraat 131) has a wooden front with a rich decoration in Louis XVI style above a brick underpinned in 1939.
