Sluices in Monnickendam

betekenis & definitie

The Middeldammersluis (Middendam approx.) [18] has a narrow passage with high overcoupling. A first wooden lock from 1425 was replaced in stone in 1620 (renovated 1969). In the middle of the 18th century, the accompanying sluiswachtershuis (Zuideinde 2) arose with a bell-gable and a vase-shaped crown. The Grafelijkheidssluis or Kloosterdijk lock (at Noordeinde 125) [19] consists of a small lock locks (1611), a lock with oval chamber (1884, modernized 1932) and a drainage sluice (circa 1932). The sluiswachterswoning (Noordeinde 117) dates from around 1880; the cast-iron drawbridge (1884) was made by iron foundry 'De Prins van Oranje'.
