Sluices in Schardam

betekenis & definitie

There is a double drainage lock in the Korsloot, the Schardam lock (near Schardam 21). The southern lock basin dates back to 1592 and was renewed in 1738 (date stones). The northern bowl dates from 1712 and has cartouches with the weapon of the Hoogheemraadschap of the Uitwaterende Sluizen and a mention of the dyke. The Beemster or Horn lock built in 1735 in the Beemsteruitwatering (near Schardam 32) regulates the polder water from the Schermer and the Beemster.
