Polder mills in Uitgeest

betekenis & definitie

Of the five windmills that polluted the Polder Uitgeester and Heemskerkerbroek, only the Tweede Broekermolen (Lagendijk 8) remains, an octagonal ground sailor from 1631 that is covered with reeds.

Of the same type, the mill De Kat (Limmerweg 2), built in 1842 as a wood sawmill ('Ons Genoegen') in Alblasserdam, was transferred in 1973 to replace the burnt polder mill 'De Kat' from 1889. Molen De Dog (Geesterweg 22) the Castricummerpolder and the Dorregeestermolen (Klein Dorregeest 2) spoiled the Dorregeester polder. These octagonal ground sailors, covered with reeds, were built in 1896 after their predecessors were simultaneously destroyed by fire after lightning strike.
