Village, originated in the 11th century as the northernmost of the four elongated villages on the Langedijk. The craftsman's Oudkarspel came to Adriaan Duyck in 1607. The Oud Karpel house, built around 1640, was badly damaged in 1799 and demolished in 1808. After the land consolidation (1965-'74) Oudkarspel got a small expansion area to the west of the old ribbon development.
