Memorials in Hoorn

betekenis & definitie

The cast-iron poles with city arms on the Veemarkt date from 1882. On the pedestal of the statue of Jan Pietersz Coen (Rodesteen approx.) - born in Hoorn in 1587 - state 'does not disperse'.

The bronze statue was cast in 1893 according to F.K.A.C. Leenhoff. From 1897 the obelisk dates on postament for mayor W.K. Baron van Dedem, originally placed on the Ramen, but now in the Noorderplantsoen. There is also the image for the Hoorn singer Joh. Messchaert (1922, J. Cantré). More recent are the three bronze ship boys of Bontekoe at the Hoofdtoren (1968, J. van Druten) and the bronze statue of the 17th century city writer Theodorus Velius at the Nieuwland (1981, T. van der Nahmer).
