Etersheim in Oosthuizen

betekenis & definitie

This village northeast of Oosthuizen is located on the Zuiderzeedijk, where in 1618 a large wheel was created during a dyke breach. The corresponding Etersheim battle was dried in 1632. The form dates from 1890. a classy public primary school with teachers' home (Etersheim 8), where schoolmaster C. Joh. Kievit from 1891 wrote the popular boy's book series 'Dik Trom'. The form. Herv. church (Etersheim 10) is a one-aisled church with three-sided choir closure, built in 1905 to replace a church from 1639. Also from 1905 is the voorm. presbytery (Etersheim 9). To drain the Etersheimerbraakpolder, the polder mill Etersheimer Braakweg 5, built in 1886, served as an eight-sided inner cruiser covered with reeds on a wood-clad base (rebuilt 2002).
