Dune and Kruidberg in Santpoort

betekenis & definitie

(Duin and Kruidbergerweg 60). This country estate is the result of the merger of the outdoor Dune and Berg and Kruidberg (1865 final). From 1895 Duin and Kruidberg was owned by J.T. Cremer, president of the Dutch Trading Company.

He left in 1907-'09 to plans of J.J., M.A. and J. van Nieukerken build the current large country house in rich neo-Renaissance style and with in and out-going façade crowns and two square towers. The highest tower contains a drinking water reservoir. The interior of the house is rich in various styles. There is a Louis XV-style salon with original 'white', a Louis XV style dining room with original 18th-century paneling and accompanying murals, a Louis XVI style boudoir, a men's room and billiard room. The painters were S. Moulijn, A. Schouman, F.A. Vos, J. van der Weyden and J.E. van Leeuwen and the sculptors J.L. Joy, M.J. Hack and A. Alexander. Since 1997 the building serves as a hotel convention center.

Possibly L.J. Ritter the coach house with stable and porter's house (Duin and Kruidbergerweg 52-56, 1899). There are various services, such as a gardener's house (nr 70, 1895), two gamekeeper's dwellings (No. 66, 1898 and No. 64, 1905), a porter's house (No. 47; 1903, J. Kuyt) and a driver's house (nr. 74, 1910, G. Meppelink). L. A. Springer designed the garden landscaping in mixed garden style (circa 1910). The ice cellar, dating from 1845, was restored in 1895.
