De voorm.waag in Hoorn

betekenis & definitie

(Red Stone 8) is a stone-clad building, built in 1608-'09 to plans by Hendrick de Keyser to replace a weigh house from 1559. The ground floor has an arcade with doors that can be closed with doors and an awning. The storey was used by the civil guard (from 1618), later the night watch and the shooters, and then housed the city school (19th century). At a restoration of 1912-'14 (J.Th.J. Cuypers) the Namur stone was replaced by a gray stone. Since 1953 the floor serves as a restaurant and from 1988 also the ground floor; there are still three weighing scales present.
