Haar onderhoudend geschreven romans zijn vaak in dit land gesitueerd. Haar vele boeken zijn in verscheidene talen verschenen en verfilmd. Godden schreef tevens poëzie en jeugdboeken. Gödel was van 1953-76 hoogleraar aan Princeton University.
