Amerikaans komiek, *1.12.1940 Peoria (Illinois). Pryor werd bekend als komiek in nachtclubs waar hij amusante karakteristieken van straattypen ten beste gaf.
In de jaren zestig begon hij film- en televisierollen te vertolken. Voor zijn rol in Lady sings the blues (1972) werd hij voor een oscar voorgedragen. (1973), Uptown Saturday night (1974), Car wash (1976), Silver Streak (1976), Greased lightning (1977), Which way is up? (1977), Blue collar (1978), The wiz (1978), Richard Pryor alive in concert (1979), The Muppet movie (1979), Stir crazy (1981), Some kind of hero (1982). Pryor nam ook langspeelplaten op, b.v. van zijn shows, die karakteristiek zijn voor de soort humor waarmee hij zijn publiek bindt.
