The water winning company in Laren

betekenis & definitie

'Laarder Hoogt' (Rijksweg West 25-31) was founded in 1910 by the Utrecht Waterleiding Maatschappij for the care of the water intake for Hilversum and Baarn. Of the two pump buildings from that time, the left was enlarged in 1912 (facade 1910 maintained). The construction consists of six Polony desks.

After acquisition by the Provinciaal Waterleidingbedrijf Noord-Holland (PWN), in 1930 it published a competition for a water tower. The winning design by W. Hamdorff is a brick-clad round tower (1932-33) with two concrete flat-bottom reservoirs and an attached stair tower. The side buildings contain an office, a service residence, a shed and a service room.
