The R.K. St. Werenfridus Church in Wervershoof

betekenis & definitie

(Dorpsstraat 73) is a three-aisled basilical cross church with three-sided closed choir and a large tower of three sections with eight-sided lantern, frontals and a needle spire with corner turrets.

This neo-gothic church, inspired by the early French Gothic style, was developed in 1874-75 by Th. Asseler to replace a church from 1805. The church was restored in 1948-'49 and in 1985. The interior is covered by cross-rib vaults of gestukadoord wood and has stocky round pillars with button capitals. In 1990, the whitewashed interior was painted again in 1990. The inventory includes a pulpit (1885) made by J. Thissen, crossroads of F. Loots (1905-'11) and an organ built by M. van Dinter (1862). The two-storey presbytery (Dorpsstraat 71) dates back to 1875 and was designed by Asseler.
