The (Herv.) Nieuwe Kerk in IJmuiden

betekenis & definitie

(Kanaalstraat 250) is a pseudobasilical cruciform church with a roof rider, built in 1910-'11 to a traditionalist design by W.A. Forsyth and G. Meppelink. The interior is covered by stuccoed pointed vaults with wooden arch ribs and draw beams. From the construction period, the neo-Gothic paneling in the choir part and the baptismal garden with a natural stone baptismal font date. The consistory (southwest corner) was expanded in 1958 with a district building. The presbytery built in 1906 (Kanaalkade 48) was designed by J. Wolbers.
