The Herv church in Krommenie

betekenis & definitie

(Kerkplein 1), originally dedicated to St. Anthonius, is a single-nave church with three-sided closed choir and a wooden gable tower with a narrowed spire. The original 15th-century church was extensively restored after fire in 1574 in 1657-'58.

In the gable tower there is a clock cast by Rudolphus de Montigny (1396). During the restoration in 1962-'69 (Y. Kok), an exterior plaster was removed from 1873 and the outer shell of the wall was almost completely renewed. The interior is covered by pale yellow painted wooden barrel vaults with marbled draw beams, corrugated and wall styles; the color scheme has been reconstructed on the basis of traces found during the restoration. The inventory includes a pulpit on natural stone foot (1658), a doophek and men's bank (both circa 1670), 17th century pews (some from the church of Middelie) and an early-18th century ship model. Coming from the (old) Baptism. church on the east side at Zaandam is the organ built by J. Bätz (1838, transferred 1968). Behind the organ, the painted wooden shot (1737) shows a representation of the Ten Commandments. After the restoration, the seam floor was supplemented with a few sisters from the Nieuwe Niedorp church.
