The former council house in Jisp

betekenis & definitie

(Dorpsstraat 44) is a cross-shaped building in Mannerist style with a side staircase and a front façade with sandstone claws and fronton crowning.

On the roof frame are images of Justitia and Charitas. The entrance to the town hall is located in the left side wall and in the front façade adjacent to the road ditch (now without bridge) the passage to the forem. Waagruimte, where previously also a wooden cachot was. On the floor are the orphan room and the chamber, both with a 17th-century interior and a mantelpiece with carved cheeks. Furthermore, there are beam layers on consoles. All frames were renewed during the restoration in 1904 (J.F.L. Frowein).
