The foremost fort at Vijfhuizen in Vijfhuizen

betekenis & definitie

(at Spieringweg 613) was constructed as a moated fortress of the Defense Line of Amsterdam to defend an acces (Haarlemmermeerringvaart). With a pottery from 1890 the fort was further established in 1894-'97. The elongated bombproof main and front building (with observation dome) is flanked by separate lifting domes. At this at the beginning of the fort located across the Haarlemmermeer Geniedijk is a secondary battery (1903). The dam lock in the Haarlemmermeerringvaart (opposite Vijfhuizerdijk 70) consists of several masonry pillars with bulkhead rebates (1889).
