Dijkdorp, created by the Schardam built in the first half of the 14th century. This dam with sluice was at the end of the Korssloot, which served as a drainage from Kennemerland, via the untamed Beemster. The Embankment Beemster (1612) received a separate discharge north along the Oudendijk.
