Village, originated in the indoor area of the Kennemerduinen near the intersection of the Bloemendaalseweg and the Zijlweg. This predominantly equipped area with outbuildings received a station in 1881 on the Haarlem-Zandvoort railway line, after which a modest village center was formed. Around 1900 a water supply complex was set up on the west side and a villa park was created near the station. The municipality of Haarlem has in 1927 part of the territory annexed. After the Second World War, Overveen became a commuter village and grew to Haarlem.
