Other warehouses in Hoorn

betekenis & definitie

In the harbor quarter there are still some warehouses, such as the originally 17th-century warehouses London (Bierkade 2) and Dantzig (Bierkade 8), both with two low floors and a hoist (originally with shutters). The Bierkade 5 warehouse has a 17th-century wood frame inside. Smaller, but also equipped with a hoist, is the 17th century warehouse Achterom 111 (restored 1988). From about 1860 onwards the plastered façade of the double warehouse Korenmarkt 5-6 dates, which probably has an older core.

Noteworthy are the various cheese warehouses, mostly wide deep buildings with low floors. The form. De Zon cheese warehouse (Bierkade 1) was built in 1873-74 according to the design by A.C. Bleijs for the company Tj. Crown and Zn. (office building since 1994). The double warehouse De Landbouw en De Nijverheid (Nieuwendam 2-3) from 1890, with mansard roof, served respectively for the storage of flour and cheese. A similar mansard roof has the double cheese warehouse Alkmaar and Gouda (Bierkade 4), built in 1903 for K. de Jong (since 1993 museum).

Other cheese warehouses are Belgium (Gerritsland 7, 1913), Appelhaven 6 (1926) and Noord-Holland (Bierkade 6, 1931). The form. distillery in Hoorn 'Schermer Jenever' was founded in 1782 as a wine merchant B. Schermer. The Koning Buurt 44 property was converted into a liquor distillery in 1876, designed by A. C. Bleijs. In 1877 he also designed the adjacent brandy distillery Dubb Buurt 46-48 with a higher warehouse section and semi-circular windows. In 1919 -20 there followed an extension with house and warehouse (Kleine Noord 51) to design by M.J.E. Lippits and H.J. Cramer.
