This ribbon village east of Wijdenes came into being as late-middle-century peat extraction. The church later came closer to the sea due to landfall. The form. Herv. church (Oosterleek 9) was established in 1875 as a hall church with a wooden façade tower on the site of a church from 1694 (retaining the plaque). Behind the church is a shell cemetery. From 1873 onwards, the two-class public primary school with teacher's home (Oosterleek 7) dates.
