Village in the Haarlemmermeerpolder, originally called Venneperdorp. It was founded shortly after 1852 at the intersection of the Hoofdvaart with the Venneperweg as one of the two planned large villages, in anticipation of a never-completed division of the polder between North and South Holland. The cross village developed along the main roads was given an expansion plan in 1912 in the form of a square of 'dreven' (Noorder-, Ooster-, Zuider- and Westerdreef). After the Second World War the village was extended beyond this square, at the end of the 20th century mainly on the west side.
