Village, originated in the early Middle Ages on the site where a moraine hits the Zuiderzee. Count William III founded in 1324 a chapel in honor of his predecessor Floris V, murdered in 1296 at Egelshoek near Loosdrecht. Due to the erosion of the Zuiderzee coast, large parts of the village disappeared into the water in the 14th-17th century. After initial depopulation, in Muiderberg in the 17th century, courtyards were set up around the Meent (now Brink).
At the end of the 19th century a flourishing as a seaside resort began, stimulated by the construction of the Amsterdam-Gooi tramway (1881). Around 1925 some village expansion followed in an easterly direction. After the Second World War Muiderberg was further expanded on the east and south sides.
