Middenbeemster (municipality of Beemster)

Village founded in 1612 as the main village of the new polder Beemster (1612) at the junction of the Middenweg and the Rijperweg. The Herv was built around the centrally located cattle market. church, the Mansion (polder house, later town hall), a school (disappeared) and a smithy.

In the village lived mainly middle-class, renting farmers, a few notables and workers. Middenbeemster continued to grow in the 19th century, with the buildings becoming a bit closer. After the Second World War, the village was mainly extended westward and recently also in the northeastern quadrant. There is the new town hall (1992-'93, C. de Jong and B. van Langen), inspired by a farmhouse. Middenbeemster is a protected village.
