Kleine Sluis (municipality of Anna Paulowna)

betekenis & definitie

Township located in the Anna Paulownapolder, named after the Russian wife of King William II, and also named Anna Paulowna. In 1844, the Company obtained a concession to mark the Anna Paulownapolder.

Because of the flow channel of the Zijpeboezem (called Oude Veer) one made a Westpolder (1845) and an Oostpolder (1846). The first buildings in the Westpolder originated in 1848 on the east side along the Molenvaart. After the construction of the Zaandam-Den Helder railway line (1865), a second village center with a catholic church formed at the station. The village suffered from the flood in 1916. After the Second World War, Kleine Sluis has been expanded, but has not just grown to the Spoorbuurt.
