In the Havenbuurt in Marken

betekenis & definitie

stand along the harbor mainly detached fishermen's houses from after the flood in 1916.

Most buildings have since been converted into shops and café-restaurants. The houses with an entrance on the dyke have a back house originally built on stilts. For a number of them, the construction still exists, as in the radically renewed building Havenbuurt 6 (now restaurant 'Land en Zeezicht') and at the transverse houses Havenbuurt 21-34 (circa 1917). The premises Havenbuurt 21-23 have double, transversely developed rear houses on stilts. In other transverse houses, such as Havenbuurt 8-10 and 19-20 (both in the second half of the 19th century), the piles have been partially or completely replaced by a wooden substructure.
