In the fairly densely built neighborhood the Kets in Marken

betekenis & definitie

the various building types are also recognizable. Characteristic are Kets 4, 6, 8 and 9 and in the extended Kets 10, one of the last in appearance authentic state. The deep houses built on stilts are Kets 21-26 (18th century, converted in the second half of the 19th century) and Kets 27-33 (second half of the 19th century). In this group of houses, the pile construction was replaced around 1930 by a brick substructure. Kets 25 formed part of the 'Fort' yard. The gardens used to be used as bleaching fields.

On the south side of the village there are four other yards that stand out in the polder landscape as densely built-up islands with wooden houses. Most houses date from the 18th century and were rebuilt in the second half of the 19th century. Often they were brought together at the end of the 20th century and thoroughly renovated. The most original yard is the Grotewerf in Marken

Characteristics here are Grotewerf 2-3, 7-8, 10-11, 13, 18 and 21-22. Near the southern dike is the Rozenwerf in Marken

The building Rozenwerf 1-2 has a projecting wooden front with scalloped wind springs. The plinth and the rear part of the porch are made of brick. Rozenwerf 13 also has a backyard in brick basement. More to the west is the Wittewerf in Marken

Wittewerf 1 forms a whole with Wittewerf 14. Both have gables with scalloped wind springs; similarly Wittewerf 2-3. The brick house at Wittewerf 24 is located at the site slope. The smallest yard is the more eastern Moeniswerf in Marken. The shortened house Moeniswerf 6 was partly renovated in brick and has an advance with scalloped wind springs.

Noteworthy is the limited number of brick houses. Often these are properties with a special status. The first stone of the building (Kerkbuurt 15) was laid in 1892 by Mrs Toorenbeek-Buning. The form. Geref. presbytery Kerkbuurt 138 is a block-shaped stone building from 1890. Hotel-restaurant 'De Jong', Neighborhood II 15, was established in 1897 as a two-storey block-shaped building with neo-Renaissance details. On the site slope nearby are the deep stone houses Neighborhood II 29 and 30.
